To inherit is to be responsible for, to possess a newfound burden that was not there previously. I find myself in a state of transition from the innocent comforts of girlhood, a time when the prospects of motherhood was nothing more than a game of play pretend, acted out with baby dolls and plastic kitchens. Now that I am grown, I am acknowledging a previous self that I have transitioned out of, and yet I long to revisit, nurture, and mourn her. This series explores the internal struggle between conditioning from girlhood, my emerging gender identity, and coming to terms with whether or not I am capable of becoming a mother.
